Albus Vanitas is a museum-style still life built from a single obsession: what happens when Dutch Golden Age vanitas painting collides with a curiosity cabinet. Four albino bats circle a weathered horse skull in a slow, deliberate rotation, one presses its face into the glowing socket, one hangs from the jaw, one spreads its wings overhead. Dried botanicals, autumn leaves, black berries, and cobwebs frame the composition against a void of pure black.

The whole piece is rendered in thick impasto brushwork with the aged crackle and yellowed varnish of a 400-year-old oil painting, ivory bone, deep charcoal shadow, and dark crimson, lit by a single dramatic light source from the upper left.

Why brushed aluminum for this piece: unlike a standard print, brushed aluminum uses a metallic silver base with no white ink layer, so the bats' fur and the bone of the skull print directly onto brushed metal and pick up a faint natural sheen instead of flat white. It's a genuine match for a piece built around ghost-white fur and an inner glow.
